1 Peter 2:25

“You were straying…but have now returned…”

Sometimes the “prodigal” stays home…

You love the story. It might actually be YOUR story!
• Frustrated second born
• Claustrophobic under family restraints
• Antsy for “worldly” experience
• Enabling parent
• Bag of cash
• “I’m outta here!” departure

As the rebel leaves the “nest” his eyes are wide with anticipation and a father’s eyes are brimming with tears.

Fast-forward:
• Cash depleted
• “Best-friends-money-can-buy” are long gone
• Friendless in a foreign place
• Longing for the warmth of home

And then…
• A father’s eyes wide with anticipation
• A broken boy’s eyes brimming with tears
• A shout of joy and a glorious welcome home

Yet separated from the celebration sulks the “faithful” son. His heart was far from the father though his feet had never left the farm.

So which one IS the “prodigal son?” Sometimes the “prodigal” stays home.

Moral: You will only find joy when the sinner comes home if your own heart is fully satisfied in the Father!

See you Sunday, Church!
