John 1

“This One who became fully a human being is more amazing than you can imagine! I have seen Him. I have heard Him. I have TOUCHED Him! He is the real deal. You have got to let me introduce you to Him!” Such is the passion of the writer of the fourth biblical account of Jesus, the carpenter’s son, from Nazareth. He was clearly “more than a carpenter!”

Never has there been a more skillfully written, simplified explanation, personal resource for sharing the wonders of the gospel than the one we will read together over the next 3½ months. I trust that we, the Faith Family, will be diligent to read it like we have never read it before. I hope that we can slow down and simplify enough to take note of intricately interlaced details that are normally totally overlooked in our rush to get our daily “devos” out of the way or our “reading through the Bible in a year” assignment satisfied.

This Sunday we are going to provide a personal journal for each member so that you can record your insights and impressions as we read. On the back cover will be a recommended reading plan—it’s brief, simple, and high on the “doable” scale. We are asking the Faith Family to consider forming “reading clubs” or small group Bible studies where the reading is John and the discussion is seeking to “see” what has before passed by as “unseen.” We are asking the Lord to open our eyes to see the One who created all that is and then came and became a part of what He had created so that He could rescue what was stolen from Him by sin and the Fall.

So here’s the deal. You will be asked to sit as a member of the “jury” and listen carefully to the arguments presented in support of the proposition that Jesus is THE fulfillment of all Old Testament prophecies, promises, and portraits concerning the coming One and also, that this One who has come was in fact and reality God. Together on Sunday mornings we will careful examine seven pieces of evidence and listen carefully to seven specific claims by Jesus that was in fact both Messiah and God. Sounds like we have our work cut out for us. At the end, you will be asked to render the verdict!

“Many other miracles Jesus did in the presence of His disciples which are not recorded in this book: But THESE have been written so that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” John 20:30-31

“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may KNOW that you have eternal life!” 1 John 5:13

“This One who became fully a human being is more amazing than you can imagine! I have seen Him. I have heard Him. I have TOUCHED Him! He is the real deal. You have got to let me introduce you to Him!”

See you Sunday, Church!
