“And the top 5 names for baby boys in 2015 are…”

1. Noah
2. Liam
3. Mason
4. Jacob
5. William

These are followed by Ethan, Michael, Alexander, James, Daniel, etc.

My 10th grandchild’s name, Henry, was all the way down the list at #33. Hey, we did what WE could to elevate its popularity! Now MY name made the “Top 100 Names” list…but Thomas came in clear down at #54 ☹.

Somehow you want to get it right. After all, the baby won’t be a baby forever and will carry that label with them to the elementary school playground (Linda suggests running that potential name past a few 3rd graders to see how they react before officially attaching ☺). They will carry it into the lion’s den of middle school and ultimately have it declared loudly in their wedding. It will be seen on their mailing labels, driver’s licenses, home purchase contracts, and so on. So the process of selecting “just the right name” is a most weighty one. And ESPECIALLY if you are naming your 1st born child!

For us, names are simply “convenient tags” useful to identify people, marking them off as unique, distinct, individual. But in the times in which God’s Son came into the world, names carried significance and meaning. The “name” represented all that the person was in character, position, and promise.

So imagine the relief to the young couple to whom the Son of God would be born when the TRUE “Father” of the baby boy made the naming decision for them. To the “supposed” earthly father the angelic messenger said, “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name JESUS, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

HE IS THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD.
THE FIRST BORN OF ALL CREATION.
BY HIM ALL THINGS WERE CREATED.
BY HIS WORD HE SUSTAINS IN THE POWER OF HIS NAME.
HE IS BEFORE ALL THINGS.
ABOVE ALL THINGS HE REIGNS.
HOLY IS HIS NAME!

• THE WORD HAS A NAME.
• HOPE HAS A NAME.
• JOY HAS A NAME.
• PEACE HAS A NAME.
• LOVE HAS A NAME.

THAT NAME IS JESUS! -Isaac Wimberley

“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
