BE-attitudes

Matthew 5:3-12

It’s really not what you DO that gets you in trouble. It’s what you ARE.

• Spiritually bankrupt and recognizing it
• Grieved by personal sin and hating it
• Humble view of self and embracing it
• Passionate for righteousness and pursuing it
• Feeling the need of others and meeting it
• Authentic in motive and showing it
• Seeing a broken relationship and healing it

Who couldn’t love being around people like that?! But…

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake…”

The life lived by the light exposes the life lived in the darkness. It’s not what you DO that gets under their skin. It’s simply what you ARE. What you ARE exposes the lost to what they are. They hate you for it.

So, you find that you can rejoice and be glad when what you ARE gets you in trouble because:
• Persecution confirms that you are truly following Jesus
• Persecution reminds you that apart from saving grace you would be what they are
• Persecution enlarges your opportunity to share the light of hope with the hopeless

Has anyone seemingly, irrationally “attacked” you lately? If not, perhaps you need to rethink what you ARE.

It’s really not what you DO that gets you in trouble. It’s what you ARE!
