Acts 4

Keeping it simple…

When I am filled with the Spirit, I speak courageously of the saving power of grace of the Lord Jesus Christ: “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

When I am filled with the Spirit, even necessary acts of dissent are expressed in a gracious manner: “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:19

When I am filled with the Spirit, I take my troubles to the Lord in corporate prayer: “They lifted their voices to God with one accord, and said, ‘O Lord…take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-slaves may speak Your Word with all confidence…” Acts 4:29

When I am filled with the Spirit, I experience extraordinary courage to proclaim the good news: “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak the Word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31

When I am filled with the Spirit, I am irresistibly moved to generous living: “For there was not a needy person among them, for all had…would sell what they had and bring the proceeds of the sales, and lay them at the apostles feet.” Acts 4:34

It happened just his week in Nevada. They had participated in a common hobby/sport event. For four days they had been positioned next to a gentleman and his daughter. After observing the man’s behavior, reactions, and attitudes, my friend’s wife commented that she bet the fellow was a Christian based on what they had observed. Taking the courageous step of inquiring, her suspicion was confirmed. He WAS a believer in Jesus, a regular Sunday School teacher, a seminary graduate, and an executive with the NASA program. His credentials had to be articulated. But his love for Christ was simply evident by his responses in unexpected circumstances. What he was and Whose he was could not be concealed!

When I am filled with the Spirit, the marks of Jesus are clearly seen in me: “Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John, and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were marveling, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13

When I am filled with the Spirit, the true heart of Jesus is undeniably displayed through me! It really IS that simple! ☺

See you Sunday, Church!
