The Old Testament Woman at the Well

Joshua 2

Sometimes your world must crash down around you before you can find yourself free!

Noah needed the cleansing of a universal flood.
The citizens of Babel needed a confusion of communication.
Abraham needed total relocation.
Lot needed fire from heaven.
Jacob needed an all-nighter with a stronger opponent.

Her reputation was woven into the very fabric of her community. Royal guards knew instinctively where to go. Male visitors to their fine city would ultimately seem to find their way to her door. Her "occupation" was the tag line to her identity then, and immediately returns to our memory when we hear her name now. Humanly speaking, she was living at the end of a "dead end street" with no hope of deliverance.

For nearly four decades she waited. Israelite travelers build upon the legend of the nomadic nation, escaping Egypt on a dry path through the guts of a sea. Mighty forces fall before them as they navigate their way through the desert. Hydration sufficient for both the masses and livestock flow miraculously from rocks. Daily bread is spread out like a waiting buffet every morning when they arise. She heard, she considered, and she believed!

But she just continued to merely exist…parked at the end of a "dead end street." Then came the strangers—the testimony of personal faith—and the scarlet thread!

The Rehab of Rahab, it all began when the walls fell down!
