Building Design: What’s Our Style?!

From the architecture to paint colors, to the individual pieces of décor, every family home has a particular style. Some can be specifically identified: Victorian, Country, Southwestern, Asian, etc. Others are more eclectic and defy conventional labels. Now that the finishing touches are being placed on Phase 1: Called to Go, and the facility is evolving from multipurpose to more permanent uses of individual spaces, it seems a good time to identify the design philosophy or style of the Faith family home.

According to Dave Johnson of Studio951 Architects and a member of the design team, “warm minimalism” best defines the design approach for our newly remodeled sanctuary, foyer and Living Room. The style is characterized by bold colors and clean, contemporary lines, with touches of agricultural and industrial elements that pay homage to the building’s origins as “the tin barn on the hill.”

Architectural elements, furnishings and décor that are consistent with this contemporary style will be selected from this point forward. The goal of the design team is to maintain the integrity of the design in order to enhance the visual appeal, comfort, and functionality of new and existing spaces.

Design and Use of Common Area

The Living Room and the foyer space adjacent to the information window have been furnished and the furnishings arranged to welcome visitors, encourage caffeine-enhanced fellowship, and to facilitate individual study. The furnishings were specifically chosen for these spaces, and are arranged for their intended function. Room 234 also is now available for fellowship and organized gatherings. Below are some guidelines for use of these spaces:

The Living Room and Foyer

Feel free to move café chairs as needed to facilitate interaction within these spaces. Please take care to lift the chairs to minimize potential damage to the carpet.

Square tables in The Living Room may be combined for larger group fellowship. Again, please take care when moving and return the tables to their original locations at the conclusion of your gathering.

Please do not move the couch, armchairs and/or console, bring furnishings from other spaces into The Living Room or the foyer area, or remove furnishings from these spaces without prior approval.

It is a delight to see The Living Room used extensively for fellowship on Sunday mornings! It is clear from the level of activity that the space is not ideal for meetings and presentations during worship hours. If you are planning an organized gathering for a Sunday morning (meeting, presentation, etc.) please contact the church office to reserve a suitable space for this type of activity.

Room234

For groups requiring large round or rectangular seating arrangements for organized gatherings, we invite you to consider using Room234. Large tables and blue and gray composite chairs are available for your use. Feel free to contact the church office for reservations and assistance with set-up.

Introducing the Design Team

Design team members have spent countless volunteer hours, in collaboration with ministry leaders, to develop the design and oversee construction for the first phase of the building project. Please take a moment to thank each of them for their efforts, and encourage them as we move forward into Phase 2: Beyond234.

Final Notes

Special thanks go out to Andrea Ripley who gave generously of her time and talent to decorate the foyer for the Christmas season.

Additional café seating for The Living Room is back-ordered to March 2014. While the delay may be frustrating, consider the fact that real people in a spiritually dark region of the world (China) will be producing these items for our enjoyment. Take a moment to pray that the light of the Gospel will shine on those individuals, and for the encouragement of fellow saints who are ministering directly to lost peoples around the globe.
