Latin America
Mexico is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world and the second most-populous country in Latin America. About 76% of the people live in urban areas. Many Mexicans emigrate from rural areas that lack job opportunities--such as the underdeveloped southern states and the crowded central plateau--to the industrialized urban centers and the developing areas along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Terry and Lorie Lingel
Terry and Lorie Lingel have served with International Gospel Ministries in Mexico for almost 25 years. They first became interested in the state of Sonora in northwest Mexico after visiting there and later taking a church youth group on a missions trip. They live in Bahia de Kino (Kino Bay), Sonora, Mexico.
In Kino, they have developed a camp which is used for a camping ministry primarily for children living in orphanages as well as for pastors' conferences and other meetings. They have developed a ministry to several pastors and their small churches in the state of Sonora. They now work with three orphanages, the most recent of which is called House of Joy and is the first that they have founded and supported through their own mission organization.
Terry and Lorie actively seek to minister to people in need, sometimes health needs, sometimes food, or maybe transportation. Their compassion in reaching out to people has provided many opportunities to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to people who might not otherwise hear that message of hope.
Faith Bible Church first sent a group to work with the Lingel's in 2005 and has continued to do so each year since. From this relationship, in 2008, Faith began supporting a young church-planting pastor by the name of Jorge Gamez. He is working in the town of Miguel Aleman (know as Calle Doce) and is holding home Bible studies, kid's Bible clubs and regular church services.
The church now has property which was purchased with the help of generous gifts from the people of Faith Bible Church. We enjoy staying in close touch with Jorge and continue to provide support and encouragement for his developing church in Calle Doce.
Peggy Warren
Peggy Warren serves with New Tribes Mission in Chihuahua, Mexico. NTM is in Mexico to train Latin missionaries, to teach Spanish to missionaries, and to plant self-supporting, reproducing churches among the indigenous people groups of Mexico. They work with local churches, informing them of the need to spread the Gospel message in Mexico and around the world.
Peggy's specific role is as a member of the support team. She uses her years of experience as an elementary teacher to now teach at Colegio Binimea, a school for the children of missionaries who are preparing to go to the tribes. Peggy's call to missions came several years ago while she was sitting in a church service listening to a missionary speak. While she felt God stirring her heart towards missions, she didn't believe she could learn another language. Then she realized that she could help missionaries by teaching their children.
Peggy began teaching in missions schools in 1984. Since that time she has taught children in Colombia, Panama, and Mexico. Along the way she has also learned Spanish!
